Invasion of Ceratium furcoides in subtropical lakes in Uruguay: Environmental drivers and fish kill record during its bloom

چکیده

The invasive freshwater dinoflagellate Ceratium furcoides is extending its distribution in South America with increasing environmental impacts associated bloom. We here report two events related to C. expansion Uruguay: (1) the main drivers (physical and chemical factors, extreme wind zooplankton composition) of first appearance bloom 2012 a subtropical eutrophic shallow lake (Lake Blanca, Uruguay); (2) fish kill event Prochilodus lineatus observed during 2016 deep (Puente de las Americas, Uruguay). Lake Blanca started spring (December) after clear water period high phytoplankton species replacement cyanobacterial Raphidiopsis raciborskii. Extreme this may have initiated by enhanced cysts resuspension from sediments. High nutrient availability low grazing, further allowed expand reach over 96% biomass. In Puente we registered large-sized benthic furcoides. This caused oxygen depletion hypolimnion gills these exhibited massive accumulations cells compared ones collected non-bloom conditions. Concurring other studies our results suggest that likely P. asphyxia. Our study earliest register Uruguay (in 2012) discusses potential effects lakes.

Occurrence of Ceratium furcoides (Levander) Langhans 1925 bloom at the Billings Reservoir, São Paulo State, Brazil.

An unusual bloom of Ceratium furcoides is reported for a station of the Taquacetuba compartment of the Billings Reservoir. The appearance of this bloom is attributed to the mixing and turbulence of the water column that removed Ceratium cysts from the surface of the sediment and promoted conditions for the growth of this species in the region of mixing. Cold fronts approaching the Billings Rese...

First record of a bloom of the invasive species Ceratium furcoides (Levander) Langhans 1925 in Rio Grande do Sul state, Brazil.

Ceratium Schrank is dinoflagellate genus commonly found in marine environments, and considered invasive in continental waters (Silva et al., 2012). Species of this genus are able to develop blooms due to their mobility and resistance to sedimentation, to the occupation of the surface layer and optimised use of resources such as light and nutrients (Donagh et al., 2005). Even though its blooms a...

simulation and experimental studies for prediction mineral scale formation in oil field during mixing of injection and formation water

abstract: mineral scaling in oil and gas production equipment is one of the most important problem that occurs while water injection and it has been recognized to be a major operational problem. the incompatibility between injected and formation waters may result in inorganic scale precipitation in the equipment and reservoir and then reduction of oil production rate and water injection rate. ...
